Product Description

Prince of Denmark is a strong, dark beer of great complexity and depth. It is based on traditional recipes from the 18th Century but has also been described as an ‘Imperial Stout Nouveau’. Brown, amber and black malts are mixed with pale ale malts to give this beer its strong aroma and colouring.

Tasting Notes: A complex beer with aromas of leather, chocolate and liquorice, with a lingering taste.

Awards: Best Sussex Beer – Sussex Beer Festival 2014, Gold – International Beer Challenge 2013

Well, after hearing that this beer had won the ‘supreme champion’ at the international beer championship 2012, I decided to see what the fuss was all about!
Well, straight from the pour, I could tell that this was going to be different to most other dark beers I had tried. An oily blackness with a tan ring of bubbles and a scent of molasses and Tamarind spiciness up this beer into an ‘intense’ category.
A similar range of tastes with added tobacco and treacly stickiness stay on the palate for a long time ensured this was not a beer to be rushed or drunk in quantity!

Whilst this beer will never work as a session beer, it will fit as a special occasion tipple. I look forward to trying it with different food combos, to see if it works with food or would remain a stand alone beer, to be savoured on its own.

Rich taste, robust body and near motor-oil consistency. This is the drink for you if you like your beer thick, dark, sweet and strong. I had to discipline myself last Christmas, with only a single 24 bottle case. I’ll stockpile this year. Essentially Prince of Denmark is the wonderful Russian Imperial Stout without the sediment. I don’t know if you’d call it a ‘session beer’ but a session beer in my part of the world is what tastes nice and you want more of and this qualifies on both counts. The quality is stunning. Quite simply the best beer I’ve ever tasted. Pity it took me nearly six decades to find it.
