BeerBods is the UK’s leading beer club and subscription service with over 5,000 members all over the UK. Subscribers drink one beer (that is sent in the post) and are emailed the story behind it every week. Subscribers also join a live online tasting of each beer every week, giving them the chance to discuss the beer with other beer lovers. At the end of each year subscribers are invited to vote for their favourite beer from the last 52 weeks.
This year’s winning beer was Bonfire Boy, our November seasonal amber ale. In second place was Tiny Rebel’s Pump up the Jam, followed by Buxton Brewery’s Imperial Black IPA.
Matt Lane, BeerBods founder, said "Bonfire Boy by Harvey’s Brewery was a real hit with our subscribers. With a slightly burnt, bitter aftertaste, and a superbly smoky flavour it was the perfect beer to celebrate Bonfire Night festivities. The fact that it was brewed as a tribute to the fire services who had extinguished an enormous fire at the brewery just made us all love the beer more. A remarkable beer with a remarkable story and worthy winner of BeerBods Beer of the Year 2019."
We also received some fantastic comments via the live tasting on Twitter:
"I'm often quite negative about dark ales, they generally aren't my favourite. I normally prefer stouts and porters, but occasionally you get a gem like this one" - @Connormcc
"Already a firm favourite. Love the notes as you tilt the glass, the rounded no nonsense taste with malts and the little tongue tingle bitterness at the end to clean the palate." - @StephenNDW
"If you were given a beer described as "Bonfire Night in a bottle" this would be it... a hint of smoke, sparkle on the tongue and full flavoured." - @NickDonovan7
Bonfire Boy is available on draught in November only, but available in bottle from our brewery shop and online all year round.
