Easter Ale Hot Cross Buns

Robin is back with a delectable Hot Cross Buns recipe!

Featuring our Easter Ale, these sweet treats are sure to delight. Whether enjoyed fresh out of the oven or toasted with a slather of butter, they are sure to become a cherished Easter tradition for your family and friends.

Ingredients:

  • 250g Strong white flour
  • 25g Caster sugar
  • 25g Butter
  • 100g Dried mixed fruit
  • 1 Medium egg
  • 100ml Harvey’s Easter Ale
  • 1tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Mixed Spice
  • 1 tsp Easy blend yeast
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 100g Shortcrust Pastry
  • Sugar syrup (3 tbsp Sugar & 6 tbsp Water) 

Method:

1. In a bowl, mix the flour, spice cinnamon and sugar.
2. Add yeast, beer, egg, butter and fruit.
3. Mix to a good dough and knead for 5 minutes.
4. Cover with a tea towel and leave in a warm place until doubled in size (1-2 hours)
5. Divide the dough into 6 balls and place on a greased baking tray. Leave to rise for 1 hour.
6. Roll out the pastry and trim to make crosses. Place on the buns.
7. Bake for 12-15 minutes at gas mark 7 (220°C)
8. While baking, cook down the sugar & water to make a thick syrup.
9. Brush over the hot buns to finish.
