Sussex Day & St. Richard’s Ale

In celebration of ‘Sussex Day’ on June 16th, Harveys Brewery have devised a beer in honour of the County and its patron saint.

St Richard's Ale Harveys BrewerySt. Richard’s Ale (5% ABV) combines six different varieties of hops from Bodiam, Burwash, Northiam, Salehurst, Udimore and Wadhurst, in a brew that champions the hop growers of Sussex.

On Sussex Day, the brewery will be serving samples of the new brew together with Sussex breads from Lewes’ Hearth Bakery and High Weald’s Horsted Keynes cheeses. Meet us in the brewery yard (off Cliffe High Street) between 11.00am and 3.00pm.

Samples of Sussex wine from Court Garden Vineyard at Ditchling will also be available. The beer, bread, cheese and wine will be available for sale in the brewery shop throughout the day.

The Sussex flag will be flown from the brewery and local producers will be happy to provide information on their wares. So come and raise a glass to ‘Sussex by the Sea’ at the County’s oldest independent brewery.

  1. Hello, isn’t it time you had some Harveys Spent Grain Bread available? Perhaps even grains from this brew. I like it. Could take off in Lewes. Available in USA microbreweries sometimes. Just Google ‘Spent Grain Bread’.
Also – my comment is… can you make the boxes a bit darker on this page. I couldn’t see (on my iMac) where to put the comment as it’s so faint.

    1. Hi Adrian, thanks for your comment. We have teamed up with the Hearth in Lewes who provide fantastic breads using our yeast. I’m sure they would be very interested in trying a Spent Grain Bread also! We will look into to making the comment boxes more visible also.

      Kind regards,
      Marie Welsh

  6. I missed this event — I just didn’t hear about it.

Is it being repeated in 2015?

And will the special beer ever be available in bottle? (I can think of several friends born and bred in the county and now living out if who would appreciate a bottle.)

    1. Hi Michael, we have high hopes that we will be repeating this event next year. Sussex Day has been officially recognised since 2007, so we will be involved one way or another I am sure! Kind regards, Marie Welsh – Digital Media Manager.
