ABOUT
A traditional brown ale. Brewed with roasted malt and dark sugars, it has a sweet, malty palate and a bittersweet finish derived from Fuggle and Progress aroma hops. There is a lush fullness, offset by a hint of burnt sugars.
ORIGIN
A play on the name of another very famous brown ale, Lewes Castle is named after Lewes' own Norman fortress, built after William's conquest of 1066.

Food Pairing
Brown ale and mushroom risotto is a classic food and beer pairing, and Lewes Castle Brown – an award-winning exemplar of its style – is robust enough to work fantastically well. Wild mushrooms have a meaty texture and a rich, earthy character that’s perfectly complemented by the roasted malt notes in the beer.
Both Fuggle and Progress - the traditional British hops used in Lewes Castle – also have some earthy characteristics and rounded bitterness making this a truly winning combination.
And those rich, earthy notes would also work well with a hearty lentil stew or a chocolate fudge brownie.
