In 1976, a panel of leading wine experts gathered in Paris to compare some of the finest French wines with emerging competitors from California. To the surprise of the judges and the wider wine industry, the American wines came out on top, earning the highest scores in both the red and white categories and challenging centuries of French winemaking supremacy.
